Ballyhoura Rambling Festival October 16th - 18th

The event is being hosted by the O’Sullivan family at the all new Deebert House Hotel in Kilmallock. Ballyhoura country is often referred to as a rambler’s paradise. We invite you to experience this wonderful countryside with us from the 16th -18th October. Whether you are an enthusiastic rambler or wish to take a leisurely stroll in this rolling countryside you will be in the capable hands of knowledgeable guides who will take you safely through the rolling hills and through some of the most magnificent scenery. All this will help you to enjoy an autumn break that will leave you feeling revitalised before heading into the winter months.

Guide for Ramblers:
Ramble A) Experienced Ramblers
Ramble B) Experienced Ramblers at a Slower Pace
Ramble C) Leisurely Regular Ramblers

Friday 16th October:
Welcome Reception with entertainment at
Deebert House Hotel @ 8pm.

Evening includes:
A) Photographic Presentation Of Local Scenes
B) Presentation by Guest Speaker
C) Ceol agus Craic

Safety
Hill rambling is an adventure sport, not devoid of an
element of risk. Those taking part do so at their own
risk.
Participants are advised to be properly prepared for
their chosen Ramble, especially Grade A Ramblers.
The decision and authority of the Ramble Leader is
final and is to be accepted by the participants.

Saturday 17th October:


A) Ramble
Registration at 10am in Deebert House Hotel
Bus transfer to starting point in Kilfinane.
Walk duration approximately 4 to 5 hours
Guide leader: Pat Moriarty
Description:
A leisurely and exciting walk, starting in Kilfinane on
to Ballyriggan and then on to Slievereagh. Take time
out to see the magnificent views of Co. Limerick and
beyond, coming home by the Ballyhoura Way.

B) Ramble
Registration at 11am in Deebert House Hotel
Bus transfer to Greenwood car park.
Walk duration approximately 4 hours
Guide leader: M.J. Hennessey
Description:
Known locally as the Black Rock Loop. Walk overhead
Glenosheen, (home of the Joyce brothers) over
the stiff climb of Seefin. Short descent and walk to
the historic Black Ditch, past the Black Rock on to
Mountain Park and home by the forest track to
Greenwood car park

D) Night Walk in Glenosheen.
Registration at 7pm at Deebert House Hotel.
Bus transfer to Glenosheen.
Walk duration approximately two hours.

Description:
Experience the magic and mystery of the Ballyhoura

Sunday 18th October

A) Ramble
Registration at 10am in Deebert House Hotel
Bus to starting point in Darragh.
Walk duration approximately 6 hours
Guide leader: Michael Moroney
Description:
Starting from Darragh Bridge, Carrighenry,
Kilcruaigh, taking in the lovely river walk and onto
Ballyorgan. Walk along the gentle slopes to
Gleenosheen, and onto Seefin and the famous Black
Ditch. Walk back to finish at Ardpatrick.

B) Ramble
Registration at 11am in Deebert House Hotel
Bus to starting point at Darragh Bridge
Walk duration approximately 3 - 4 hours
Guide leader: John Hennessey
Description:
Stating from the Darragh bridge & entering the
forest track, known locally as Borreen Dearg (Red
Road). Then on through very old woodland of beech
& oak with the possibility of spotting the odd red
squirrel. Take in two mountain peaks-Castlegale &
Kilcruaigh. You will learn the history & folklore of this
lovely area as well as taking in this beautiful walk.

C) Special Interest Walk
Registration at 2pm at Greenwood car park
Directions: Beyond Ardpatrick village to a sign which
reads Castle Oliver view.
Walk duration approximately 2 hours

Description:
Why not enjoy this part of county Limerick with its
rich geology, archaeology and wildlife with one of
our most knowledgeable guides - Geoff Hunt, Bird
Watch Ireland. Two hour nature walk looking for and
admiring birds and plants. All are welcome.
