Ballyhoura Mountain Marathon
The 2008 Marathon will traverse a strenuous well marked route, through varied woodlands on the way to Slieve Reagh. Then continuing on through the “real” Glenroe and Darragh hills. Returning via Molanna river and Magniers wood to Kilfinane where a hot meal and showers are provided.

Ballyhoura Half Marathon
Starting in Kilfinane the route leads through Magniers Wood, on to Kilflynn Church and Ballyorgan village. Through picturesque Glenosheen, returning via Castle Oliver to Kilfinane for refreshments at the Maple Ballroom.

Palatine Wood B Walk
Walking down by the Old Mill in Kilfinane and on past the Palatine Wood into a forest track, the trail then follows an old turf path to the Pinnacle of Shove Reagh before returning downhill on the winding track of the Ballyhoura Way. Refreshments served in Maple Ballroom in Kilfinane.

A two hour nature walk through mixed woodland, upland hills with some heather moorland on Darragh Hills. Looking for birds, butterfly and plants. Led by Geoff Hunt of Birdwatch Ireland.

Strenuous long distance, high level walk taking in Galty More and numerous other peaks, overlooking the Five Lakes.
Lough Curra A Walk
Registration: 9.30 am Moroneys Bar, Lisvernane.
Start Time: 10.30am.
Distance: 16km.
Taking in the highest lake on the Galty mountains, including forest and moorland. Passing Lough Curra cave.
Slievenarnuck B Walk

Commencing from Lisvernane taking in Carroll’s Boreen, part of Ballyhoura Way with views
overlooking Aherlow.
Bruff Historical Walk

Learn all about Bruffand its history of habitation of some 4000 years. A colourful and informative walk booklet will be supplied.
Doneraile Park Heritage Walk

Registration: Doneraile Park entrance gates
Duration: 2 ½ hours
Explore the history of Doneraile Park through a guided tour. Learn of the Georgian Doneraile Court home to the St Ledger family until 1969. Follow the trail along the portico gate lodge, the hunting bridge, 300 old trees, and a herd of Irish dear and enjoy views of the park.
Cush Earth Works Archaeology Walk

Lough Gur Archaeology Walk

Register: Riordan’s Pub Holy Cross
Duration: 3 ½ hours
Visit Grange stone circle and continue on to discover all about the Earls of Desmond, the plantation of Munster and the vaults, the graves of Teampall Nua. Learn of burial practices and local customs of the megalithic Tomb before finally hearing of the legend Geroid Iarla and the siege of Lough Gur castle in 1641 at the lakefront.
Munster Moth Walk

Duration: 1 - 3 hours
Night Walk in the woods of Ballyorgan looking for creatures of the night such as moths and bats. Bring a camera, midge repellant, warm cloths and a torch. Great fund for all the family !

Ballyhoura Forest A Walk

Community Centre, Ardpatrick.
Start Time: 10am
Distance: 23 km
Starting at Quitrent Wood the route follows the Farrihy and Ogheen rivers. Crossing the Long mountain to Seefin, returning by the Goats path, Greenwood car park and Toor Boreen to Ardpatrick. Refreshments afterwards in the Green Wood Inn Ardpatrick.
Ballyhoura Forest B Walk

Starting at Mount Russell on to the Black Ditch and Black Rock to return by Toor Boreen for
refreshments at Greenwood Inn Ardpatrick.
Cannon Sheehan C Walk
Registration: 12 pm
Glenanaar Car Park
2 ½ hours
The walk follows the Ogeen river upstream passing the meeting of the waters. Crossing two footbridges the route continues into the forest and on to the Mass Rock. The climbing in this walk is very gradual and is suitable for beginners.
Lough Gur Archaeology Walk

Galbally Heritage Walk

Come along and explore this passage grave which according to fable and folklore it is the grave of Olium Olum, who was one of the early kings of Munster. It is also believed that the eloping couple Diarmuid and Grainne rested here in their flight from the angry Fionn McCumhaill.
Medieval Walled town of Kilmallock

Explore the medieval walled town of Kilmallock, learn of ecclesiastical origins starting in the in the 6th century, a monastery having been founded here by St. Maloch, visits the ruins of Kilmallock abbey, a 13th century Dominican building, the Blossom gate from the 16th century century surrounding town walls and much more.
Birds of Prey Walk

Duration 3 hours
Irish Raptor Study Group lead a nature walk looking at Birds of Prey with a focus on hen Harriers. Bring binoculars, camera, boots and light lunch.
