Countryside Codes of Good Practice for all walkers

On Sunday November 25th the Ballyhoura Bears and Galtee Walking clubs had a joint walk on the Galtee mountains, starting at Cush car park. 23 walkers took part in this 6 hour A walk. It was a warm, dry morning with cloud on the mountain. There were three options available to the walkers. The majority opted for the full circuit, Galteemore, Galteebeg, Loughlin's Castle and onto Farbreaga. There was no visibility and strong winds on top with no rain but dampness in the cloud. All had an enjoyable walk. The leaders were Mary Ryan from the Bears and Eoin Ryan from the Galtee club. The B walk to Lough Diheen was over three hours and was facilitated by Michael J Hennessy.Heavy fog in the vicinity of the lake hampered all views. A few in the group took in Cush mountain to extend their days exercise.

Regrettably the enthusiasm of walkers last Sunday was not without its consequences. The large number who traversed the Galtees meant there were lots of cars at Cush car park. Some of these cars were parked inappropriately. There were many access problems for residents and farmers due to irresponsible parking by walkers. Before taking to the hills again please refer meticulously to the MCI Good Practice Guide for Walkers.
