A sprightly group of eleven tackled Ireland’s highest mountain from Cronins Yard in splendid conditions. The group being led by myself, followed the Zig Zag route upward from the Hags glen and a welcome ‘sos beag’ was had on Cnoc Toinne. Here we enjoyed calm and sunny weather with spectacular views of the Eastern Reeks, Bridia valley, Carrauntoohill Caher and Beenkeeragh. We continued from here in a nice steady pace with good fun and banter and before we knew it we were all together at the cross making us the highest group in Ireland. So began our ‘sos mór’ and after refreshments we descended carefully via Zig Zag route and out through the Hags glen to Cronin’s yard. Here the group had the celebratory coffees and apple pie, a well deserved end to a truly lovely day.
