Here's the problem. The OSI sells sheet maps, such as sheet 74 for the Galtees. But they are out of stock of the laminated ones and say it will be while, if at all, before they produce any more. The demand is too small to justify producing more laminated maps, they say. They suggest buying a regular paper map and laminating it yourself. This info is the result of a phone call to the OSI on 27/2/08.

The problem is that to do the job properly you need to get it 'soft' laminated and recreased. Any of the business which I have contacted so far can only offer a heavy guage lamination which makes the map too rigid for folding and outdoor use.

Does anyone know of a company where map laminating and recreasing is done?

Update on yesterday's post. I had an email from someone else in the OSI advising that laminated maps are indeed still available at a cost of €28.60 plus €6.20 P&P.

In the meantime I had phoned 'The Great Outdoors' in Dublin and ordered the laminated map for €21 including P&P. Problem solved.
Thanks for that information Denis. It'll save us all a few quid. It's incredible that the OSI are charging nearly twice the price that Great Outdoors are charging. Especially when it is OSI that make the maps. 6.20 P&P is very pricey. Time to call Eddie Hobbs on that one :-)
